Hey Chase,

Thanks for the questions —

  • I designed the website from scratch (HTML, JS, Angular2)

There are tons of great tools out there, so I wouldn’t recommend the route I took, but I already had a website that I built in the past from scratch that I was able to port over. I’ve heard good things about Squarespace and tons of people use Wordpress.

  • The landing was also built from scratch.

I hosted it on AWS using their free tier (they offer free basic web hosting for a year). When we started to grow, I reached out to AWS and they offered us $5k in credits thru their Activate program — https://aws.amazon.com/activate/

  • I didn’t spend any money on ads or SEO

All of our traffic came from sharing the site on various forums such as Indie Hackers and Reddit.

  • There was a pretty good indication that there was interest within the first 24 hours of launching the website. I didn’t go full-time on the idea for another month and a half. I spent that time collecting emails and getting an MVP ready. This article talks about the process of going full-time on this. It ended up being more of a push than a jump — https://medium.com/@rborn92/making-the-leap-of-faith-3c18c805235a

Hope that helps!
